Stan Nicholls (born 1949) is a British fantasy author best known for his internationally acclaimed Orcs: First Blood series. He was a close friend of David Gemmell and a great fan of his work. Together with artist Chris Baker, Nicholls adapted two of Gemmell's novels to the graphic novel format: Legend in 1993 and Wolf in Shadow in 1994. After Gemmell's death, Nicholls was instrumental in founding and chairing the David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy.[1]
